The story behind the artwork

This painting was started in 2006. I set it aside for two years before going back into it and finishing it. Surprisingly, there was nothing about this piece that really changed all that much since it was begun years ago. Sometimes, I just abandon ideas for a while. When I finally finished it, I really enjoyed the final painting session. It's such a small piece, but it has a big impact. The inspiration for this painting comes from observing underwater creatures that appear like plant life, but really are not. So is this a leaf, or is it something else? The colors are transitioning in hue like a creature that can transform its color to match its environment. I've always admired animals that are masters of camouflage.
